Principal's Message
On behalf of the Management of K. C. Educational Society and on my own behalf, I extend a hearty welcome to all the new entrants (prospective young aspirants to the profession of law) in K. C. Law College.
Legal Profession, which in the main comprises lawyers and judges, has for a long time been the basis of a very large number of human activities that include the making and working of numerous social, economic and political organizations and institutions. In the present times, however, particularly after the country became independent and adopted its Constitution, many legal architects and law makers of India have made notable contribution towards the implementation of many social and economic changes in the country. The practitioners of law have also from time to time defended the rights and liberties of citizens against the abuse or misuse of power by some ambitious and overzealous members of the Executive. As much of the strength of India’s democracy today lies in its vibrant legal system, the importance of legal education in the country can, therefore,not be under-estimated.
Today, the study and practice of law offers many lucrative career opportunities to our youth. Gone are the days when litigation was the be –all and end-all of legal education. With the rapid growth of trade and commerce, following the opening of economy and its globalization, the spread of democracy and the advent of new technologies, the demand for law graduates in the country is on the rise every day. In addition to a vast majority of lawyers who are in private practice, many corporate Houses today have now been recruiting talent from law schools in the country as their legal advisors on a regular basis, offering them handsome salaries. Furthermore, there is also no dearth of opportunities for law graduates in such capacities as academicians, consultants, counsellors, social and political analysts, besides careers in judiciary, politics and administration.
Having said as much about the scope of legal education in India to-day, I need to tell all new comers to our College that a good law student needs to work hard and literally burn midnight oil to gain mastery over the subject of law. The profession of law is no doubt exciting and full of adventures. But there is no scope for complacency in it. Lawyering is an on-going almost continuous process which keeps on changing every day. One has to keep pace with new developments to stay ahead of one’s peers. This objective can, however, be achieved only by constant study and hard labour. Furthermore, a student of law needs to have an alert and active mind together with a sufficient fund of common sense. An Ability to analyse and interpret things in a logical manner is also an essential requirement of every good legal practitioner. In the long run as legal studies pass into as aspirants character, he is bound to develop a precise and rational approach to life and things.
While welcoming the new comers, I also exhort them all to be regular and punctual in their classes and visit the library on a regular basis. During their stay in the College, they should take active interest in various debates, symposia, moot-courts and similar other co-curricular activities which from time to get organized in the College. Above all, I expect all the new entrants to follow rules of discipline and proper code of conduct to make their studies truly meaningful and purposeful.
In the end, I once again extend to all our new entrants a hearty welcome and wish them great success in their life and career.
